Stop Registration And Get Off the Internet
In California legislation was passed in 2017 that allows 90% of people convicted of offenses that require registration to apply to the court to terminate this obligation. Termination of registration would also remove those who qualify from being posted on the Megan’s Law website.
This process requires a petition to the court and a hearing before the judge. Exact requirements differ for distinct crimes. In all cases the local district attorney will be notified of the petition and allowed to participate in the hearing.
Although the law does not go into effect until 2021, it is smart to begin preparing your petition as soon as possible. When you appear in court you want this petition to be granted immediately. This is a life changing opportunity.
